The Illusion of Green Fascism

In their latest campaign to prove that anyone who cares about the environment is a dangerous, misanthropic radical, Jones & Co. are scraping the barrel in search of extremists. Paul Joseph Watson came up with Charles Manson, and now he's trumpeting the brainfarts of an obscure radical from Finland, Pentti Linkola. Representing the far end of the environmentalist spectrum, Linkola actually does believe in things like human culling, fascism, and eugenics. He's an epic douchebag. And that's why he's not much of a threat to humanity as a whole: He'll never have a large enough following to implement any of his batshit crazy notions of how the world should be run.

The average environmentalist (including the ones that could be considered hardcore) is repelled by guys like Linkola. And the feeling is mutual. A year or two ago I attended a talk by Derrick Jensen, a California environmentalist who subtly promotes the bombing of dams to save the wild salmon. During the Q & A, nearly everyone asked him if it was not better to spread environmental responsibility by example (peaceful activism, recycling, and whatnot). He dismissed these people as "lifestylers" who would never made a real difference, tossing off comments like, "Composting wouldn't have stopped Hitler." Most of the small audience walked out of that room feeling that Jensen was a mentally unbalanced man. They may still read his books, but I don't think they'll be dynamiting a dam anytime soon.

The truth is, your typical environmentalist does not actually want to return to a pre-industrial, agrarian way of living. They want to keep their iPhones and their hybrid cars. The daffy siren call of folks like Linkola might snag their attention momentarily, but in the end they're not going to adopt any ideology that compromises their own comfort and security. They're not into power trips. They just want the world to be safer, healthier, and better.

Every belief system has its extremists. To pick them out of the crowd and hold them up as poster children is not only misleading, it's downright deceptive. You will not be likely to find a Linkola or a Jensen among the hippies at your local farmer's market. Not everyone who talks about conservation, alternative energy, or global warming is a threat to democracy. Jones is doing to environmentalists what he insists the New World Order is always doing to him: Falsely aligning him with violent extremists.

They're coming to get you, Barbara...

By Infowars standards, vaccines that will "lobotomize" the population are old news; Jones & Co. have already returned to calling Obama "Barry Soetoro" and freaking about the tapwater. But we'll go over the issue, anyway, because I'm sure Jones will return to it at some point, throwing references to "lobotomy vaccines" and "lithium in the water" into his broadcasts as though they're well-established facts of life.

The "lobotomy vaccines", as you've probably guessed, don't actually exist. Jones is referring to the research of Robert Sapolsky, a Stanford professor who has been studying the effects of chronic stress on animals and humans for the past three decades. In 2003, he announced that he is conducting research to develop a "vaccine-like" form of genetic therapy that will, if effective, buffer people from the adverse health effects of stress. The idea is to deliver to the cortex genes that produce neuroprotective proteins, counteracting the stress response.

Sapolsky says he's doing this research because relaxation techniques, talk therapy, and drugs (which only mask the effects of stress, rather than relieving them) are not solving the problem. He admits that his treatment is still years away from the clinical-trial phase, but feels it's crucial for science to tackle stress head-on. After observing the behavior of wild baboons in Kenya, Sapolsky came to suspect that tolerating a rigid social hierarchy can greatly increase stress and its assorted ills, particularly if submission is drummed into us from a young age. (I'm sure Alex Jones would agree with that.)

Sapolsky's work was recently profiled in a Wired magazine online article by Jonah Leher. It was this article (or a recap in London's Daily Mail) that spurred Jones to raise the alarm about "brain-eating vaccines". Jones ignored the bulk of the Wired article, which dealt with the well-documented effects of chronic stress and the possible evils of subordination, and went straight for the "vaccinelike treatment". And rather than weighing the pros and cons of such a hypothetical treatment, he summarily decided it was just another New World Order attempt to make us stupid, submissive, and apathetic. He automatically assigned the worst possible motives to Sapolsky and his assistants: Scientific tyranny. Never mind that Sapolsky's dream of a stress treatment may never materialize. Never mind that it will not, in all likelihood, ever become mandatory even if it does reach the market someday.
I encourage you to look into Sapolsky's work for yourself before deciding it's part of some NWO zombification plan. I don't fully understand all the science behind it, but I do realize that stress treatment is not intended to render people passive, stupid, or emotionless. Nor will it nullify the fight-or-flight response. It will not disable or destroy any part of the brain, as lobotomies did.

Jonah Leher responded to the panic with an editorial, pointing out that the Daily Mail condensed, paraphrased, and sexed-up the details of the Wired article. This triggered "right-wing paranoia", and soon other media outlets were portraying Sapolsky as a mad scientist attempting to create a zombie army. Leher concludes his commentary in a nasty way, declaring, "Alex Jones is a liar".

Jones isn't lying. He's just not fully informed about the research, he's jumping to the worst conclusions without talking to any of the principal players like Sapolsky, and he's villifying a potentionally beneficial treatment that hasn't even been tested on humans yet (and won't be for years, according to Sapolsky himself).
Jones has challenged Leher to be interviewed on his show, to prove that Jones' "documented" assertions about Sapolsky's research and other NWO mind-control plots are wrong. If Leher accepts this challenge and is allowed to speak freely on the program, I think Jones' wildly hyperbolic statements about "brain-eating vaccines" will be shown to be the alarmist factoids that they are.

Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)

In an August 4th Infowars article, Paul Joseph Watson states that "major mental health professionals are already pushing for lithium to be introduced into water supplies as a means of mass medicating against 'mood disorders'". Scary sh**, right? Yes, it is - until you realize that the only "major mental health professionals" even suggesting lithium in the water amount to exactly four Japanese researchers and one flake in Vancouver. And the Japanese guys made their suggestion in the pages of a periodical that isn't even remotely peer-reviewed, Medical Hypotheses. As one blogger put it, this is where scientists go when they are drunk or bored. It is not a medical journal by any stretch of the imagination.
In their Medical Hypotheses article, the Japanese researchers cited their own study, supposedly showing minor correlations between natural lithium levels in water supplies and suicide rates, which could be interpreted to indicate that more lithium equals fewer suicides. These results were published in The British Journal of Psychiatry last year, but the authors didn't suggest adding lithium to drinking water at that time. For that, they had to turn to a non-scientific journal. The only other similar study was conducted in Texas in the early '70s.
The Japanese study was also cited by the Vancouver professor who believes it merits further research, and that this "further research" (which no one seems to be conducting) could merit experimental dosing of water supplies.
Aside from these five dudes (who are insane, IMO), no one else in the scientific community is seriously advocating the use of lithium in the water. No one. In fact, pretty much everyone except these five guys is in perfect agreement that adding potent psychoactive substances to drinking water is a very bad idea. For Watson and Jones to suggest otherwise is irresponsibly alarmist. This is just one more example of the media taking the results of a single study and running wild with them, hyping the news until it's so out of proportion it's barely recognizable as science anymore. Jones should be media-savvy enough to realize this.

Watson's article is absolutely bursting with misinformation like "lithium in the water". Examples:

- "The U.S. government has been forced to admit that childhood vaccines preserved with thimerosol have contributed to the explosion in autism cases in the United States." This is in reference to the 2008 Poling decision, handed down by the federal "vaccine court". The government paid damages to the parents of 9-year-old Hannah Poling, who claimed their daughter suffered neurological damage from a series of routine childhood inoculations. People who still believe - despite a complete absence of evidence - that mercury in the vaccine preservative thimerosol causes autism in children celebrated the Poling decision, and frequently point to it as definitive proof that autism is linked to vaccines. The problem with this conclusion is that Hannah Poling isn't autistic. She suffered neurological damage due to a brain disease (encephalopathy) brought about by a mitochondrial disorder. To date, there has been no research into a possible link between mitochondrial disorders and vaccines. This is why the vaccine court conceded the case without an evidentiary hearing. The Polings couldn't provide any evidence that vaccination caused their daughter's impairment, and the court couldn't provide any evidence that it didn't. In short, the government couldn't "admit" anything.
Furthermore, Watson's mention of thimerosol is completely out of line, because the Polings believed their daughter was injured not by the preservative in the vaccines, but by immunological overload from having too many vaccinations at once. (Never mind that the viral load in the smallpox vaccine alone was greater than all the current childhood vaccines put together, and that this didn't result in an autism explosion in the 1950s!)

- John Holdren (Obama's science czar) is still promoting the use of sterilants in drinking water to curb the population. Watson points to a 2006 article written by Holdren as evidence of this, but all the article shows us is that Holdren is still concerned (as are many people) about runaway population growth. Nowhere in the article does he advocate involuntary sterilization. Being concerned about overpopulation does not mean you are into eugenics, mass murder, or any of the other things Jones warns us the "elites" are into, even if you did express a few absurd ideas in the '70s. My own mother advocates zero population growth, but is not a eugenicist by any means. She and Holdren are from a generation that is highly concerned about the world's future.

Watson then quotes some of the comments that Infowars readers have made on the article itself, including a registered nurse who claims he/she is abandoning his/her profession because he/she disapproves of vaccination and water fluoridation. This person repeats the often-cited but never-verified assertion that the Nazis used fluoridated water to "make the Jews more docile". Watson also brought this up in his first Infowars article on "brain-eating vaccines".
I have been trying to trace this factoid to its source for over a year, and it leads only to dead ends. The most authorative source of the Nazi fluoride story was an anti-fluoridation crusader of the 1950s named Charles Perkins, who also declared (without providing any evidence at all) that water fluoridation was a Communist plot brought to the U.S. by Soviet brainwashers. Perkins did not give any source for his statement that the Nazis used water fluoridation in the concentration camps, and at any rate fluoride does not render people docile. (If it did, wouldn't crime rates have dramatically decreased since the introduction of fluoride to municipal water supplies?)

As error-riddled and alarmist as Watson's articles on the issue are, Jones' video on the "brain-eating vaccines" and "lithium in the water" is even less factual and even more fear-based. Jones states that articles in Time magazine, the New York Times, and "all the major medical journals" are promoting the idea of putting lithium in our water. This is not the case. Those periodicals were reporting the results of the Japanese study, not promoting adding drugs to the water. In fact, The New York Times and BBC articles both quoted Sophie Corlett, director of the British mental-health charity Mind, who warns against adding drugs to the water.

I listen to Mr. Jones once or twice a week, which is about all I can handle. Any more of the guy and I'd laugh myself to death. But even I'm not laughing at him much these days. I can't even giggle when I realize that I am witnessing the last threads of sanity being plucked from the angry sweater that is Alex Jones' psyche.

Much as I hate to give Jones any credit, I think he has done such a fine job of indoctrinating his listeners that he has actually become dangerous.
Dangerous? How could an intellectually challenged, woefully misinformed Angry Redneck Suburban White Guy with a Message, having just a radio show and a handful of shoestring "documentaries" to his dubious credit, be dangerous? Well, I think anyone who tells you to avoid vaccinations, tapwater, non-organic food, soy products, and police officers could be dangerous. All of these things are good for you, in moderation.

Jones has lost his ability to reason, if indeed he ever possessed it in the first place. During today's broadcast, he declared that every single U.S. serviceman is injected with very aggressive cancer viruses as part of the New World Order's "eugenics" program. Eugenics is the practice of selective breeding to bring out desirable characteristics, but Jones has broadened the term to mean "killing everyone for no apparent reason." Common sense should tell him that indiscriminate mass killing of Americans would not benefit Them; it would destroy Their tax base and reduce the number of consumers, possibly even collapse the economy. Hasn't he noticed that the neocons urge women to squirt out as many kids as possible, to financially compensate for the imminent decline in Boomers? Hasn't he seen the horrifying effects of fertility treatments? Does he not realize that lifespans and quality of healthcare are increasing throughout the developed world? And that unvaccinated people suffer and die from diseases that could be prevented by vaccines, while vaccinated people do not suffer and die from diseases that are prevented by vaccines?

No.

Instead, he sobs, "It's eugenics", then - turning on an emotional dime - screams, "Please do not laugh at me, officers!... I used to be dumb, too, and I love you. Remember I warned you." He informs us that entire military units will soon be dying from vaccines. "You are all going to die." Break for Prison Planet online store commercial.

This meltdown was followed by half an hour of grunting, groaning, snorting, and sighing as Jones tore into each and every one of the people who phoned to pledge their undying fealty to him. One caller earned his exasperation by being from Alaska. Another frustrated him to the point of apoplexy for suggesting a modest outlay of cash for some extra media exposure. And all incurred his wrath by talking about "this or that" while not caring enough about the real issues - like foster children being killed with radiation and chemicals (no source given, of course), like the creation of AIDS, like the symbol on Obama's private plane that proves he's a globalist in thrall to the New World Order agenda...
"It's a world of YOU KNOW WHAT!" Jones bellows in disgust. "The average person is duplicitous, greedy scum. And you people with your namby-pamby this-or-that... like this NESARA bull... there is no knight in shining armor! You have to save yourselves!"

After a few commercial breaks, Jones calms down enough to explain his outbursts as a bout of depression, something that strikes him on-air "only" once a month or so. He becomes so disgusted by the NWO agenda, he says, that the bottom just falls out and he is overwhelmed by the "maggot-covered decay" that surrounds him, by the "giggling Yuppies" who refuse to take him seriously. An "epiphany" has made him realize that he simply can't articulate the "kaleidoscope of ideas" he has, so he becomes emotionally overloaded with the "wonder of God's creation... covered with crap!"
Essentially, he feels that he is a lone voice in the wilderness, and that he is shouldering too much of the responsibility for the salvation of all mankind. It's time for others to step up and do their part by plastering their communities with PrisonPlanet.com bumper stickers and warning their neighbors away from the IQ-devouring scourge that is tapwater.

This rare moment of insight ends seconds later, when Jones again begins ranting and sobbing about "vaccines causing autism in little children - that's a fact", about our "sexual congress with evil... [our] golem-like abandon", about the "rockabilly art types" (no, I don't know either), and about those who criticize him. This rant is punctuated by a sustained "AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGG!"

"I watch you drink out of those dark cups... and I cry for you.
My fruits are legion. And they are good.
I don't have ego anymore. I have the power of will that is mistaken for ego.
We are on a planet."

He reiterates an earlier statement that the NWO will probably kill him. They already listen to all his phone calls and threaten his wife. He then goes on to literally rebuke his enemies, old school televangelist-style, and to warn us away from the "key things" that the NWO is using to destroy our minds and bodies: sodium fluoride, vaccines, cell phones, GMO foods, TV, and "dangerous brainwashing movies like Batman", ending on the televangelistic note, "Be born again. Unlock your psyche."

The End of Jonestown?

Or the start of another one?

In last week's interview with Paul Watson, Jones announced that when his next documentary has been completed and his book has been written, he might abandon filmmaking and broadcasting altogether. What will he do instead? Form groups to educate the public about "eugenics" and the elites' depopulation agenda.

Once again, he stated that he no longer goes to movies, or dines out, or swims with his children because he is consumed with his mission to educate the public about the elites' agenda. But this time he specified that his mission revolves around the poisoning of the air, water, and food.

"Nothing else matters."

I don't know quite what to make of this. It could be a positive sign that Jones is going to narrow his focus, which would probably alienate (or simply bore) a huge number of his followers. Sure, they're freaked over fluoride and MSG, but are they going to drop everything to fight them 24/7? Doubt it.

On the other hand, Jones' current MO is to spread his special brand of ignorance and alarmism very broadly, and thinly, over a wide array of topics. What will happen if he concentrates all his manic energy on a single topic? He might be able to convince large numbers of people to reject science-based medicine, birth control, soy, public education, vaccination, cancer research, and any number of things he links to the depopulation agenda. He might just gain a whole new following and fulfill his dream of creating a "9/11 Truth movement for eugenics". And that's a distressing thought, because his views on "eugenics" are the most dangerous ones he holds.

Deja Vu

Jones' Sunday broadcast was mostly about eugenics. Again. And amazingly, he repeated just about all of the same wildly inaccurate info he used last time:

- Bill Gates' father is the head of Planned Parenthood. Okay. Fine. Now that you've said it at least twice, Mr. Jones, I will just accept the fact that Bill Gates Sr. used a cool Illuminati gizmo to reduce his age by several decades, had a sex change, and took the name Cecile Richards.
- Receiving three or more flu shots in your lifetime virtually guarantees that you will develop Alzheimer's. Unless some mind-flipping study results have just been published, this is still the same old unsupported crapola from Hugh Fudenberg; you're 10 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's if you have 5 consecutive yearly flu shots than if you have only one or two flu shots in your lifetime. At least Jones didn't say that "hundreds of government studies" have proven it, like he did last time. (This page named for the quack Royal Rife and his utterly worthless machine mentions a Calgary study on mercury and Alzheimers, and a similar study by anti-vaccinist Boyd Haley, but neither of them directly support Fudenberg's claims.)
- James Watson had to step down as head of the Human Genome Project [chancellor of Cold Spring Harbor] last year [2007] because he said "blacks aren't human" ["blacks aren't as intelligent as whites"].

He also talked a lot about Child Protective Services. I agree with him that there are many serious flaws in the foster care system, but Jones and I aren't seeing quite the same flaws. He claims that CPS takes kids from their parents without warrant or cause and sells them for up to $500,000 to the highest bidders or to people who have put in orders for a certain kind of child. A senator told him there are even bounties on the heads of blonde, blue-eyed children in Georgia. This is very specific information. How is it, then, that no CPS workers have been charged with human trafficking? It all smacks of urban legend, not unlike the white slave trade rumours that paralyzed women with fear 60 years ago.
"This is on the record!" Jones said. What records, exactly?
Maybe he's referring to a record album, from K-Tel's Sh** That Never Happened collection.

Jones also insists that social work was founded only to carry out racial hygiene, spy on communities, and abduct children. I dare him to say that to Dorothy Day and Jane Addams, if/when he gets to heaven.

In Endgame, Jones included footage of Susan Hoff demanding to know why 68% of Texas foster children are on psych meds. I think I might have an answer for her: Foster kids may have actual mental or emotional problems. Wouldn't you, if this was your life?

According to Jones, the real racists aren't klansmen, but liberals like Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood). He says that in her letters to the Procter and Gamble and Colgate foundations, she advised they all pretend to be liberals who loved blacks, then break up families and "pay women not to have men in their houses", drug them, and hire black doctors and leaders "so they'll trust us and take the injections."
While Sanger made many racist, eugenics-friendly comments in her lifetime, some of these seem over the top. They're a little too Protocols of the Elders of Zion to ring true. For one thing, Sanger really was a liberal - or what we might call a libertarian - to the core. For another, she did not advocate involuntary sterilization or any other kind of coercive interference into the sex lives of poor Americans; she believed they should be allowed to make their own reproductive choices and have access to reliable birth control for the first time in history. She did try to enlist black leaders in an effort to convince poor, religious blacks that birth control wasn't sinful, but this had nothing to do with "injections". As wrong-headed as she and other eugenicists of her era were, she wasn't out to annihilate minorities.

Jones also mentioned that a few "weird black leaders" actually attend "eugenics meetings" and approve of the elite's plans to wipe out blacks, without giving the names of the leaders or the dates and locations of the meetings. Could be anything. Remember, Jones believes that every humanitarian effort in Africa is just thinly disguised eugenics.

Meanwhile, on the Infowars website, Kurt Nimmo offered up the stupidest theory of David Carradine's death thus far.

"Eugenics"

Last Sunday, Jones' broadcast was all about eugenics, or rather it was all about what Jones perceives to be eugenics and depopulation tactics: Food contamination (all intentional, he contends), fluoridated water, vaccines, birth control.

He began the broadcast by saying, "I have such an important job to do. How do I reach out to the people? How do I document for them that I'm right? That I have the evidence, I have the facts, I understand the globalist agenda...?"

The reason many of us don't take him seriously, he says, is because we're "punch-drunk on entertainment and alcohol."
Way to win new fans: Accuse lukewarm listeners of being idiots and drunks.
Soon, a regime far worse than that of Stalin, than that of Mao, than that of Hitler will descend upon the ignorant, hungover masses. That'll teach us not to ignore Alex Jones.

Later, he told us that if just 10% of what he said in his three-hour broadcast is true, we're in big trouble. I don't know about 10%, but based on the inaccuracies I heard in each hour, I'm guessing the percentage is rather low....

• The Rockefellers were the sole funders of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute [Society]. If you Google "Rockefeller Kaiser Wilhelm Institute", you'll find an Encyclopedia Britannica entry that confirms this. I couldn't find anything like this by Googling, but a visit to the online EB shows it doesn't even have an entry for the KW Society. I think it goes without saying that all the KW Institutes receive funding from numerous sources, and always have. The Rockefeller Foundation made major contributions, however, and some of this Rockefeller-funded research became central to the Nazis' racial policies. That's what Jones was trying to say.
• James Watson was forced to resign from the Genome Project because he declared that people of colour are a sub-species of homo sapiens. He stepped down as Chancellor of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 2007, after it came to light that he had referred to black people as less intelligent than whites. (Good riddance.) But he left the Genome Project 15 years earlier, because he opposed the patenting of gene sequences - a position with which Jones would certainly agree, if he knew anything about it.
  
• A Mayo Clinic study found that children who receive flu shots are 3% more likely to be hospitalized than children who do not receive flu shots. To Jones, this is more evidence that children should not be inoculated against anything. Ever. He also views it as proof that "the flu outbreaks are from the shots". But the study dealt only with the flu vaccine, and Dr. Avni Joshi clearly stated, ""While these findings do raise questions about the efficacy of the vaccine, they do not in fact implicate it as a cause of hospitalizations."
  
• "Hundreds of government studies" show that you triple your chance of developing Alzheimer's if you receive three or more flu shots in your lifetime. Similar misinformation has been circulating widely; that you're 10 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's if you have 5 consecutive yearly flu shots than if you have only one or two flu shots in your lifetime (note that Jones didn't even get his misinformation right). Bill Maher actually repeated this on Larry King Live in 2005. This seems to have come from a single doctor: Hugh Fudenberg. Please Google him - you'll learn much about his other unsupported claims (including, in the '80s, a claim that he could cure autism). In 1997, Fudenberg claimed the mercury in thimerosol (a vaccine preservative) collects in the brain and eventually causes Alzheimer's. Not one study, government-sponsored or otherwise, supports his theory. The causes of Alzheimer's aren't fully understood, but heavy metal poisoning is not a contender. Besides, you cannot get heavy metal poisoning from the tiny amount of mercury present in flu shots. (If you're still concerned about mercury for some reason, you can request a mercury-free shot.) Jones would be disappointed to learn that some of the more promising Alzheimer's treatment experiments being conducted involve vaccination with amyloid.
• Baby formula contains rocket fuel. Not exactly. 15 brands of formula were found to contain trace amounts of perchlorate, which is used as a component of rocket fuel. Perchlorate contamination of cows' milk and drinking water may pose a health risk because it inhibits iodine uptake to the thyroid (though the American Thyroid Association has not found an increase in thyroid-related conditions due to exposure to environmental levels of perchlorate). So mentioning that it has been found in formula isn't totally out of line. Telling people that solid rocket fuel has been found in formula is.
• Breastfeeding will probably be illegal someday. Not just in public - everywhere. I think La Leche Leagues all over the world would disagree with you there, Mr. Jones. Besides, what possible pretext could there be for outlawing breastfeeding?
  
• "The Good Club" recently met in secret to discuss eugenics, namely how to kill Africans via tainted water supplies. This club, if it could even be called such, met at the behest of Bill Gates at the home of biochemist Sir Paul Nurse. Population control via birth control education was reportedly on the agenda. Does anyone other than Catholics seriously have a problem with that? Encouraging responsible family planning in impoverished nations that can't even support their current populations? And does anyone besides Jones et al truly believe that Bill and Melinda Gates are mass murderers?
  
• Bill Gates and his father, who runs Planned Parenthood, want to reduce the population. No. They want to control population growth. Completely different thing. Cecile Richards, not Bill Gates Sr., has been the president of PP since 2006. Gates Sr. served on the board of PP at one time, but he hasn't been on the board for at least the last 4 years. He is not running Planned Parenthood.
  
• "Almost every major philanthropic organization out there gives almost all their money to eugenics organizations." "Eugenics organizations", in Jones' view, means orgs that provide health care, clean drinking water, or medicines to Africans. I guess we're just supposed to let them die, because no humanitarians on this planet can be trusted. Also (and Jones has said this before), don't give a penny to cancer research.
